The RCUK policies do not apply to monographs, books, or book chapters.
But the Wellcome Trust is considering extending its policies to cover books and book chapters arising from work that it has funded.
HEFCE and the other funding councils may seek views on whether it would be appropriate to extend to monographs any open access requirements relating to the REF.
There are a number of projects and initiatives experimenting with open access models for monographs. Among the most significant are the OAPEN-UK project and Knowledge Unlatched.
