The policies of RCUK and the Wellcome Trust require that where Gold OA is not an option, papers should be deposited and made accessible in a repository.
The Wellcome Trust’s policy prescribes that all papers produced with its funding should be made accessible via PubMed Central (PMC) and Europe PubMed Central (Europe PMC) as soon as possible and in any event within six months of the journal publisher’s official date of final publication’.
RCUK’s policy on embargoes has been the subject of some debate, reflected in the written and oral evidence to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee. The latest position is reflected in the revised guidance from RCUK issued on 6 March, which includes the decision tree drafted by the Publishers Association.
