Strand 4: Researcher Development Framework (RDF) and Seven Pillars of Information Literacy

During 2011, the Working Group on Information Handling played a major role in ensuring that information handling and data management are properly identified and located in Vitae’s RDF as a key component of researcher development. It has charted the relationship between the RDF and SCONUL’s Seven Pillars of Information Literacy; supported the development of the information lens for the RDF and the researcher lens for the Seven Pillars; and promoted and organized workshops to illustrate the importance of information literacy knowledge, competencies and skills within the RDF.

RIDLs has built on this foundation to help develop greater awareness and use of the the RDF, its information lens and the Seven Pillars. In particular, RIDLs contributed to and presented at workshops organised with partner organisations:

- with the UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE), at its workshop on the digital future of HEIs, on 17 January 2013 in Manchester; a report from the meeting can be found here.

- with Vitae and Jorum, at a small workshop that focused on data management skills, on 18 April 2013; notes from the meeting can be found here. The event took place under the auspices of the DaMSSI-ABC project;

- with the Society for Research in Higher Education (SRHE), at its workshop on new approaches to digital literacies, on 10 May 2013.
